Description

Asteriscus maritimus 'Gold Coin' is a sun-loving, evergreen perennial prized for its dazzling, golden-yellow daisy flowers and low, spreading, mat-forming habit. This Mediterranean native forms a dense, trailing mound of small, silvery-gray-green, somewhat succulent leaves. From late spring through summer, and often into fall, it produces an abundance of large, solitary, 1-2 inch wide flower heads in a brilliant, luminous gold, creating a spectacular, long-lasting, coin-like display that attracts butterflies and other pollinators. Exceptionally drought, heat, and salt tolerant, it is an outstanding choice for rock gardens, slopes, coastal gardens, hanging baskets, containers, and as a colorful, low-maintenance ground cover.
