This variegated form adds creamy-yellow stripes to the already spectacular Octopus Agave. The variegation highlights the twisting form of each leaf, creating a plant that is both sculptural and vividly colored. Q: Does it produce offsets (pups)?
A: Unlike most agaves, Agave vilmoriniana and its cultivars are known for being solitary and rarely producing offsets. They typically grow as a single, spectacular rosette that, after several years, will send up a massive, branched flower stalk (up to 15-20 feet tall), set seed, and then die. Propagation is primarily from seed or by rooting the bulbils that often form on the flower stalk.

Q: How cold hardy is it?
A: It is best suited for frost-free or near-frost-free climates (USDA zones 9-11). It can tolerate brief light frosts down to about 28-30°F (-2 to -1°C) if kept perfectly dry, but prolonged freezing temperatures will damage it. In cooler zones, it must be grown in a container and overwintered in a bright, frost-free location.
